Rochester and Rutherford Hall is the Hall nearest to Canterbury University's teaching, library and recreational facilities.

The Hall has accommodation for 176 students in single rooms.

These have central heating and provide excellent storage space. There is a telephone in each room with free local calling. There are bathrooms on each floor and there is a central laundry.

Study facilities in rooms include desk, bookcases, and a computer jack point that can provide a link to the University's computer network along with e-mail and Internet access.

Computer Facilities

As well as the computer jack points in rooms, the Hall has a computer room for students' use. In 1998 the computer room became a University computer workroom. Hall students now have on-site access to the range of computer programmes available on the University's servers, including email and the Internet.

Junior Common Room

The Hall's Junior Common Room is a well-used and popular facility. It has pool tables, table tennis, two television rooms and a selection of magazines.

The common room is all under the control of the Student Executive.

Music

The Hall has three pianos which includes one grand and two uprights. There is also a drum kit and a pipe organ.

There are several practice areas available in the Hall.

Hall fees provide three meals a day, seven days a week, in addition to several formal dinners and theme meals during the year.

The Hall's catering is contracted to Spotless Educational Services, and a student-staff food committee assists in planning and monitoring the menu.
