Luke McConnell – NZ Rep Freeride Skier

Luke McConnell has not only developed a love for skiing, but he is also finding his pace as a World Freeride Skier. In January this year he won the Open Men’s Qualifier event in Avoriaz, France and in 2022 won the Mens U18 at the Pointe de Sesale in Bruson.  Judged by how smooth, stylish, and controlled a contestant can ski down the mountain, Luke won both titles in true form. 

Born and raised in Mount Maunganui, and a strong academic from Tauranga Boys, Luke is currently studying a BE(Hons) degree at the University of Canterbury and is a first-year resident at Rochester and Rutherford Hall. We look forward to seeing his freeriding skills in action on the southern slopes this season.
